To celebrate World Cup Cake day (there is a day in the year to celebrate everything, including cupcakes!) Hirsch’s Silverlakes recently hosted a Cupcake Decorating morning for children between the ages of 4 and 12. The event was free of charge, and was well attended by the community – with parents thanking Hirsch’s for taking the initiative and helping to fill the holidays with fun activities for the little ones.
An interactive demonstration on how to make cupcakes was followed by the making of 3 different flavoured butter icings. After that the children had free reign to decorate their own cupcakes with a variety of different toppings. Each child proudly displayed their creation – although some could not wait and promptly ate their cupcake.
Parents were treated to a cappuccino from Philips and – if they were lucky – a designer cupcake compliments of their child/ren!

Christmas time is a time of giving, and the management and staff of Hirsch’s Silverlakes decided to support the Viva Kids Village recently by collecting colouring books and crayons for the 4 to 5 year olds. The Viva Foundation provides schooling and pre-schooling for children from the impoverished Alaska informal settlement in Mamelodi East.
The saying ‘it is more blessed to give than to receive’ became a reality when seeing the happy smiling faces of the children, who were so excited to receive their gifts. “On behalf of everyone at Viva Village, a big Thank You to Hirch’s Silverlakes for blessing our children with the beautiful colouring in books. Viva is all about partnerships and we value the relationship with Hirsch’s especially!” said Director of the foundation, Meleney Kriel.

Hirsch’s Silverlakes recently hosted a Christmas Cooking Demonstration, placing the spotlight on the Whirlpool Jet Chef.
With Beef Wellington and Christmas Mince pies on the menu, guests were eager to learn how to make these festive dishes. Sheldon Platelli from Whirlpool demonstrated the versatility of the Jet Chef and also pointed out the advantages of using the Whirlpool induction hob. The versatile Nutribullet was used to chop ingredients needed for the Beef Wellington.
Both dishes came out perfectly, and everybody was suitably impressed. Hirsch’s regularly host cooking demonstrations – should you wish to receive invitations to these events please contact email@example.com
Justice Madzivhandila was thrilled to be informed that he was the winner of a brand new AEG 15 place-setting Dishwasher from Hirsch’s Silverlakes. Justice, a regular customer of the Silverlakes store, entered the competition in-store and brought his wife along to collect his prize. “It is my wife who always encourages me to enter these competitions, and we are so pleased to have won this fantastic prize.” He commented.
Hirsch’s Silverlakes recently hosted their ever popular Business Networking Event in collaboration with the CCBC, giving businesspeople the opportunity to showcase and market their businesses while networking with likeminded individuals.
The Guest Speaker at the event, Stephen van Basten, is a sought after public speaker and author, and is a member of the Toastmasters International and The Wedding Professionals Association of SA. His work allows him to address over 20 000 people annually.
The title of Stephen’s talk was ‘The Fulfillment Factor’. Said Stephen: “Determine the things that you love doing – and do more of those, while doing less of the things that you hate. Fulfillment is found when you make a living doing the things that you love.” He also explained the importance of each person understanding which values were more important to them, as these were the things one would automatically make more time to do. Stephen encouraged each person to remember that each situation encountered was one in which to grow, and that people grew best when the ‘going got tough’.
Each person present was given the opportunity to present their business in a 30-second pitch, whereafter informal networking took place over light refreshments.
