Guts, Glory and Graciousness

Hirsch’s Silverlakes recently hosted their ever popular monthly Ladies Networking event with Guest Speaker,  Sonja Smith. The title of Sonja’s talk was  ‘The Guts, the Glory & the Graceful Glam-Ma’ and she shared her experience on Entrepreneurship and gave lessons and tips that she had learnt over the past decade in business.  “Don’t be afraid to take risks – and remember, sometimes it is easier to apologise than to ask for permission.  There will be times when you just have to take a leap of faith” said Sonja.

Sonja is the MD of the Sonja Smith Group and is the current Woman in Business Champion – National Small Business Chamber (NSBC).  She holds The Business Excellence Forum Award (BEFA) for The Most Innovative Company (2015) and is a former Businesswoman of the Year & Finalist for The Centurion of the Year as well as being President of Centurion Toastmasters Club 2015/2016.  Sonja was also one of the Margaret Hirsch Woman in Business Achiever finalists for 2016.

At the event, the first Silverlakes finalist for the Margaret Hirsch Woman in Business Achiever Awards for 2016/2017 cycle of the competition was announced as Bianca Otto.  Bianca is the Managing and Creative director of Silver Chalk Design Studio and has done business with big corporate clients such as Alcatel, Assupol, Meditech, Lafarge to name but a few.

Each of the ladies present had the opportunity to promote themselves in a 30-second time slot, and as such create more awareness for themselves and their businesses.  Networking and exchanging of business cards took place after the event, over light refreshments.

World Kindness Day Celebrated with ‘Treehouse’

In celebration of World Kindness Day, Hirsch’s Silverlakes recently paid a visit to the House Parents of ‘Treehouse’ – Willemien and Fred Vorster, to give them a tea time treat.  Treehouse is an organisation with the aim of restoring neglected teenage boys to their full potential, through providing foster care and support – on a social, educational and spiritual level.

It was heart-warming to celebrate World Kindness Day by giving back to a couple who give so much of themselves to others.
