With Spring in the air and everybody wanting to get back to their ‘summer body’, Hirsch’s Silverlakes recently hosted a Banting Workshop.
The Banting lifestyle – which has gained popularity recently after being endorsed by Prof Tim Noakes, is all about a no sugar, low carbohydrate intake, medium protein and a high fat diet, while eating ‘real’ or unprocessed foods.
A specialist in her field, registered Real Meal Revolution Banting Coach, Willemien Niemand, explained the history of Banting and the principles that can be applied in order to not only lose weight but also to improve one’s health. Willemien, who herself has lost 22kg on the eating plan and has been able to control her insulin levels to the point where she no longer needs medication, explained the benefits of the lifestyle. Her presentation was followed by a lively question and answer session.
