In celebration of Women’s Month, Hirsch’s ran an initiative in which to honour a woman from the surrounding community who has made a valuable contribution to the area.

As such the ‘Hirsch’s Heroine’ award went to Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Moagi, a social worker.  Meleney Kriel from the Viva Foundation, who nominated her for the award said, “Lizzie works tirelessly at coordinating a team of community respondents as well as counselling people in need in the Alaska Informal Settlement.  What is amazing about her story is that she does this all for a fraction of what she could earn in the formal and public sector.”

A tearful and overwhelmed Lizzy received her award and a R500 gift voucher, expressing her gratitude at having been recognised for her efforts.
