Broken to Beautiful

Hirsch’s Centurion once again hosted a successful Ladies Networking event.

Winning this month’s Margaret Hirsch Woman in Business Competition was Marlize le Roux, Agency owner of 3 Biolink Centres in Pretoria.  Biolink are Concentration Centres, and are the leaders in behavioural, cognitive and educational training. Making use of different bio-feedback exercises they help students to increase focus, concentration and become more consistent when performing tasks.  Marlize’s team have been under the Top 3 Agents nationally for 3 years running.

The Guest Speaker at the event was Louise Niemann, who aims to inspire girls and women to see and believe the best about themselves.  Louise topic was ‘from broken to beautiful’ and she explained that until the self-image held internally is a positive one, a person cannot grow into the best version of themselves – empowered and confident. Louise gave a very emotional and inspirational talk, sharing from her own struggles and victories – to the point where she is currently a Mrs Gauteng and Mrs Africa finalist.

Following the talk, each of the businesswomen were given the opportunity to present themselves and their business in a 30-second ‘elevator pitch’.  Afterwards the opportunity was given to network over a cappuccino and light refreshments.

If you would like to enter the Margaret Hirsch Woman in Business Achiever Competition, please contact for more information.  The monthly finalists wins a R500,00 Hirsch gift voucher and the overall winner a R10 000 voucher, with the second  and third prizes being R5 000,00 and R2 500,00 respectively.

Happy Mahome’s!

Recently Margaret Hirsch received a request from one of the Hirsch’s customers, Nicole Tozzi.

Said Nicole: “A short while ago my nanny came to me in tears and asked me to please help her to “fix up” a few things at her home in Hammanskraal where her two children, two grandchildren and niece live.  My husband and I then went with her one day to have a look and we were horrified at the conditions in which they were living.  There was no way that we could have ‘fixed up’ their home and left them living in such poor conditions.  We took a large chunk of our savings and bought a ‘ready to go’ container home.  However, what we hadn’t considered were the beds.  Needing to have two kids in each room, the one room would only be able to take a set of bunk beds.  In addition to this the double bed being shared by the other children was very old and falling apart” said Nicole.

Nicole requested help from Hirsch’s in the form of beds and linen for the Mahome family.  Hirsch’s immediately got to work in organising donations for this request, and recently set off to Hammanskraal to do the delivery.  The bunk beds, donated by Michael Calvin Designs, were assembled and installed – together with 2 single mattresses provided by Hirsch’s.  Afterwards the beds – including a double base set – were properly ‘dressed’ with beautiful linen that had been donated by Linen House.  Margaret Hirsch kindly donated all the duvet inners as well as toys for the children to play with.

The family was overjoyed and speechless at the generosity that was shown to them.  The smiling faces and warm hugs bore testament to their deep appreciation.

A big thank you goes to Margaret Hirsch for making this donation possible and for opening her heart to this needy family.

Thank you also to Linen House for the linen and Michael Calvin Designs for the bunk beds.

Helping hand from Hirsch’s for Viva

Hirsch’s recently had a request for assistance from the Viva Village in the Alaska Informal Settlement, Mamelodi East, Pretoria.

Said Meleney Kriel, CEO of The Viva Foundation of South Africa:  “We are presently feeding 176 children breakfast and lunch every day and have 20 staff members at the centre, with an after school programme and other regular events there, where we serve meals.  All this cooking (more than 90 000 meals a year) takes place in a tiny kitchen that we originally built when there were only 22 children.  We are slowly, but surely, revamping our kitchen as funding becomes available and we urgently need a large gas stove, with gas oven.    There is no electricity in the informal settlement and therefore we can only use gas. “

Hirsch’s and SMEG joined up to support this very worthy cause, and were able to donate a full gas stove to the Village.

Meleney and her ‘cook’ Tebogo Nonyane, together with some of the children from the Viva Village, were thrilled to receive the donation and could not stop expressing their gratitude towards Margaret Hirsch, COE of Hirsch’s and the Management of SMEG for making this possible.  “I cannot wait to cook on this stove, I am so happy – thank you, thank you” said Tebogo.

Recession Proofing your Business

Hirsch’s Centurion recently hosted their monthly Business Networking Event, which was well attended by entrepreneurs and business owners alike.  These events are hosted in order to provide a platform for likeminded business people to network and market their businesses.

The Guest Speaker at the event, Steve Sutton, CEO from Business Doctors, spoke on ‘Recession proofing your business’.  He discussed the different indicators that could be used to measure the sustainability of a business:

  • Business Value (can the business be sold and for what amount)
  • Stability and Growth
  • Risk
  • Cash Flow
  • Recurring Revenue
  • Marketing (Competition)
  • Customer Satisfaction
  • Management

After a most insightful message, the opportunity was given for each of the businesspeople to present their business in an ‘elevator pitch’ of 30 seconds.  There were some lovely lucky draws up for grabs, whereafter networking could commence more informally over a cappuccino and light refreshments.

The Guest Speaker at the event, Eberhard Niklaus, spoke on Investing in your Strengths for Peak Performance.  Eberhard has lectured numerous audiences, and coached dozens of business owners to manage successful businesses.  Over the past 15 years, he has worked with a group of over 60 franchisees and coached them to run a successful business by teaching them how to apply business skills and maintain positive and winning attitudes. He explained the importance of identifying and working with strengths in order to obtain optimal results and maximise potential.  Explaining this he said “It has been proven that people who understand and focus on their strengths are 3 x more likely to be satisfied with their life and are 6 x more engaged in their job.  Strengths are the things that come naturally to us and that in order to identify and use them one would need to:

  • Name your talents/strengths
  • Claim them – put them up somewhere that you see them daily
  • Aim them – ask yourself: “how can I use this today?”
  • Practise them daily – strengthen them”If you would like to receive an invitation to these free events, please email
