Hirsch’s Centurion recently hosted their popular Domestic Cooking Course – aimed at teaching Domestic workers quick and easy to prepare meals on a budget.

The course was well attended, and Guest Chef, Denise van Eck from Kenwood assisted in the preparation of the different dishes.  Recipes were provided, and the likes of Foccacia Bread and Potato Soup were prepared. Certificates of Completion were issued at the end of the course. “By making these courses available to the Community, we aim to not only upskill, but also educate the Domestic Workers on the correct use of different appliances within the kitchen”, said PRO Joanne Brunette.

23 April was World Book Day, and Hirsch’s Centurion, in conjunction with The Rekord Centurion, decided to make a difference to the lives of people in areas where books are hard to come by with a collection of new and second hand books for both children and adults.

The Charity that was chosen for the donation is the Viva Village – where schooling and a pre-school is provided for underprivileged  children in the community.

Commented Hirsch’s Joanne Brunette “The response to the project was overwhelming, with Sutherland School donating 9 boxes of children’s books.  In addition to this 9 boxes and 5 trolleys filled with books were collected.”

Said Meleney Kriel, CEO of the Viva Foundation: “We work in a very high-priority poverty area and access to literature and books are very limited.  We appreciate that we have the opportunity to make the books available to the children as well as the community.  The books will also be used in our youth development program.”

Joanne Brunette, Sylvia Kgobe and Wendy BeyneveldtHirsch’s Centurion recently hosted their monthly Domestics Training Course. The course is not only aimed at improving the skills of domestic workers, but this event – like many others, is another way Hirsch’s contribute to community development.

In conjunction with the Training course, a competition is run whereby a Domestic Worker of the month is awarded, and receives a R300,00 gift voucher.  The monthly finalist also stands a chance to win the Domestic Worker of the Year competition with a prize of R5000,00 gift voucher, compliments of Hirsch’s.

Said Wendy Beyneveldt, the Employee of this month’s winner – Sylvia Kgobe: “Sylvia came into our lives 3 years ago and has grown in leaps and bounds.  One of the amazing skills she has learnt is to cook for us.  You don’t always see Angels in real life – but Sylvia is one of them.”

Sylvia was thrilled to receive the recognition, and having recently given birth to triplets, welcomed the voucher – which she immediately utilised towards a new iron and kettle.

After the completion of the training course, certificates were handed out to each of the Domestics.

They general consensus was that they had learnt a lot of new skills, which would definitely be put to good use.  Said Employer Kevin Knott, after having received feedback from his Domestic, Sibusisiwe Ndlovu: “Thank you very much – Vusi enjoyed her day so much.  Thank you Hirsch’s for this great initiative.”

The art of People Mastery!

Hirsch’s Centurion recently hosted their monthly Business Networking Event, which aims at creating a platform for small to medium Businesspeople to market their business and network with likeminded people. The guest speaker at the event, Stephen van Basten, spoke on People Mastery.  Stephen, is respected by many as a Philosopher, Life Coach, Human Behaviour Specialist and Author,   and he annually addresses over 20 000 people with his inspiring messages.

He touched on the importance of effective communication and building rapport – in order to build strong relationships.  One way to do this is to adapt or mirror your communication style to suit the listener. Identifying how a person makes their decisions eg. must it look good; must it feel good; must it sound good; must it make sense – enables one to successfully adapt your approach.

Estelanie van der Merwe, from Business Doctors said:  “the Speaker was insightful and I definitely learnt some tips on how to improve the way that I approach people. ”

A 30 second time slot was allowed for each of the Attendees to present themselves and their business – and this was followed by active networking over a cup of coffee and a snack.
